Vāstuśāstra
Vāstuśāstra is an ancient Indian system of architecture and design that outlines principles for creating harmonious living and working spaces. It offers guidelines on how to plan, construct, and organize buildings so that they align with natural forces and promote well-being. Vāstu principles guide various aspects of architecture, including the orientation of buildings, room placement, proportions, materials, and aesthetics.
Sanskrit
The Bachelor of Arts in Sanskrit programme provides a comprehensive foundation in Sanskrit language, literature, grammar, and cultural studies across three progressive levels. Beginning with basic language skills and classical texts, the curriculum advances to literary criticism, composition, and translation, and culminates in specialized studies such as Vedic literature, drama, technical terminology, human rights, and conflict resolution. Designed to balance classical scholarship with contemporary relevance, the programme equips students with analytical, linguistic, and ethical competencies for academic, cultural, and interdisciplinary career paths.
Applied Astrology
Astrology is a key discipline within Eastern studies and an integral part of Sanskrit Vedic literature, with its foundational texts composed primarily in Sanskrit and widely used in both India and Sri Lanka. Applied astrology (pravṛtti-jyotiṣa), the practical branch of Jyotiṣa, focuses on offering actionable guidance for real-life decisions related to health, profession, relationships, rituals, and spiritual practice through the interpretation of planetary movements and birth charts. Grounded in classical Sanskrit works such as the Vedāṅga Jyotiṣa, Bṛhat Parāśara Horā Śāstra, and Bṛhat Jātaka, this tradition has long been embedded in Sri Lankan cultural and social life. Given that contemporary astrological practice in Sri Lanka is largely tradition-based rather than academically grounded, this degree programme aims to develop graduates with both practical competence and scholarly understanding, fostering research-based, systematic, and socially relevant applications of astrology for national and cultural development.
Hinduism
The Hinduism General Degree Programme offers a comprehensive introduction to the philosophy, history, and cultural traditions of Hinduism. It explores sacred texts, rituals, ethical systems, and major schools of thought, helping students understand Hinduism as a living, evolving tradition. The programme develops critical thinking and cultural awareness, preparing students for academic research, teaching, and diverse careers in humanities and social sciences.
